Attempting to make my own baby food

I can't believe James is just about 5 months old and that means very soon I will be able to start him on solids! I am excited for this huge milestone for us and I am proud of myself for waiting until he is ready. He could probably start now but I would like to make sure that he has some more head control and that his digestive tract gets the recommended 6 months to mature. I bought some bananas at the store and I am going to be making him some baby food to freeze and have on hand when he is ready for it. I figured I would start with bananas because they seem easy to do, just smash them up and puree them with breast milk or water. I am going to put the mix into ice cube trays so that it is in serving sizes. Depending on how well my adventure with the bananas go I will start making all sorts of different foods. I have noticed that the selection of baby foods from the store is very small but by making my own I can introduce James to a wide variety of flavors. My baby is growing up so fast it makes me sad.

  1. Starting solids is a big deal. Be careful when freezing the bananas because they will still turn brown some. Also if the banana is ripe enough you shouldnt have to puree it. And I never mixed breast milk with any of the fruits or veggies, I always mixed it with the rice cereal or oatmeal.

Can't wait to hear how it goes.
